Happy Holidays !

As the holiday quickly approaches, I wanted to take the time to say Merry Christmas to you!  I hope everyone enjoys the time with their family and loved ones.   The holiday season always puts me in good spirits.  I love relaxing and watching classic movies like A Christmas Story.

I hope those of you who celebrate Hanukkah, had an awesome time! For those who plan on celebrating Kwanzaa I hope you also enjoy the time celebrating with your family as well.  Overall, I want to acknowledge that this time of the year is a time to be grateful and appreciative for family and the things we have.  The diversity of cultures during this time of the year is simply beautiful.

Happy Holidays!

A Lesson from The Greatest – 2 Minute Read

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Last night I was watching some old boxing highlights of Muhammed Ali.  Ali to me is one of the most influential people to walk this planet.  I’ve always admired him for what he did inside the ring, as well his fight for social justice outside of it. I remember the first time I heard the story of how he began calling himself “The Greatest”, and it inspired me even more. Following his defeat over Sonny Liston in 1964, Ali was quoted saying, “I was indeed scared of Liston. I had to convince myself I was ‘The Greatest’ before I could convince the world.”

Positive Vibes Only

Positive Vibes Only

Do your friends have positive vibes? Do you have positive vibes? World renowned motivational speaker Jim Rohn said, “We are the average of the five people we spend the most time with.”  Whether we realize it or not, we’re significantly influenced by our friends and it affects our decisions and way of thinking.

Don’t Feed Your ANTs

Yesterday, we read our students a great book titled Don’t feed the ANTs by Erin Bernardi. This book taught an awesome lesson about Mindfulness. Bernardi coined the acronym ANTs, which stands for Automatic Negative Thoughts. The book explored various ways that negative thoughts play a role in our daily lives.

Have you ever been handed a test, and immediately thought that you were going to fail? Or have you ever finally mustered up enough courage to pursue your dream, and suddenly thought it was too difficult? Every day we all have ANTs, whether they be thoughts of fear, sadness, or frustration. Today, I challenge you to find a technique that helps you, when conflicted with ANTs. Feel free to share some techniques that you may already use.

Look Forward

A few years ago, I entered a local motivational speech competition. My speech focused on the journey a caterpillar takes to becoming a butterfly, and I compared my life to it. Growing up I wanted to know my purpose in life, and like others I struggled finding it.  Compared to a caterpillar, I also crawled through each day at a slow pace. I often worried about the past and things I couldn’t change.[expander_maker id=”2″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”]

It took some time for me to realize, that the past has no bearing on my future.  I’ve learned that it’s okay to take time to work on myself.   They say tomorrow isn’t promised, so every morning I seize the opportunity to be a little better than I was the day before. Remember your past doesn’t define who you are, nor does it determine your future.

“Nobody gets to live life backwards. Look ahead, and that’s where your future lies.”
